About Krisesenteret i Midt-Troms
Krisesenteret in Midt-Troms is a place for women, men and children who have been threatened, abused or have experienced other degrading conditions. If you think you or someone you know might be a victim of domestic violence, or if you need someone to talk to, you can contact Krisesentreret in Midt-Troms. We are available 24 hours a day, and you can choose to be anonymous.
We can offer a place to live in an acute phase, counseling, support, guidance, and we can also help you get in contact with other offices for help (NAV, police, lawyer, etc).
The living areas for women and men are physically separated.
About violence
Violence is any act directed against another person that through this action scares, causes injury, pain or that get that person to do something against their will or to stop doing something that they want. (Per Isdal).
This definition includes many types of violence, such as:
Physical violence: is use of physical force with the potential for causing harm, injury, disability and death. Physical violence includes but is not limited to: scratching, pushing, shoving, throwing, grabbing, biting, choking, shaking, slapping, punching, use of weapons against another person.
Psychological violence: involves trauma to the victim caused by acts, threats of acts, or coercive tactics. Psychological violence can include, but is not limited to: humiliating, controlling what you can and cannot do, withholding information, acts that makes you feel diminished or embarrassed, isolating you from your friends and family, denying you access to money or other basic resources.
Sexual violence: is any act directed at someones sexuality. Sexual violence can include, but are not limited to: sexual comments, harassment, pressure or force to sexual acts, rape. Apart from physical force, it may involve psychological intimidation, blackmail or other threats towards the victim or someone close to the victim. Sexual violence can also occur when the victim is unable to give consent, for instance while drunk, drugged, asleep, or mentally incapable of understanding the situation.
Sexual violence also occurs within marriage, relationships, and from people the victim knows.
Materiel violence: is violent acts directed against things or objects that through that scares or threatens you. This can include but are not limited to: throwing objects, rip up clothes, slam doors, destroying furniture.
Latent violence: exists in the posibility that violence might occur. Fear of being exposed to violent acts, controls your behavior and actions.
Violence occurs across all levels of society and inn all societies across the world. All use of violence is forbidden by law, and are as punishable when it happens in a home as when it happens on the street.
